Sculptra
Sculptra® Aesthetic is an injectable treatment that corrects sunken areas of tissue, as well as lines around the nose and mouth and on the chin.
In Sacramento, Dr. McMenamin performs Sculptra as a long-lasting alternative among the dermal filler treatments offered at our practice.
When To Choose Sculptra® Aesthetic
If you are unhappy with deep lines between your nose and mouth, called nasolabial folds, the most effective treatment may be Sculptra Aesthetic.
Some injectable treatments work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles, or by plumping up the skin in areas where the skin has lost its natural collagen. Sculptra Aesthetic is different. Sculptra Aesthetic is made of poly-L-lactic acid, and it works by causing your body to regenerate collagen.
Sculptra Aesthetic:
- has long lasting results—results last up to two years,
- works by causing your body to replenish lost collagen,
- is biocompatible and gradually absorbed by your body, and
- treats shallow and deep nasolabial folds and other wrinkles.
You should not use Sculptra Aesthetic if you have a history of keloid formation, hypertropic scarring, or have skin inflammation in the area of treatment. You should also not get injections if you are nursing or pregnant. Please be sure to tell Dr. McMenamin about any allergies before you receive treatment.
What To Expect During Sculptra Treatment in Sacramento
Patients usually get a series of treatments with Sculptra® Aesthetic. You may get two to four treatments over the course of several months. During your appointment, you will receive a series of injections. It is common to feel some discomfort at the site of injection, and experience redness and swelling. A topical anesthetic can be applied in order to reduce discomfort during the injections.
Recovery And Results
After your Sculptra treatment in Sacramento, you will have local swelling in the areas of injection. You may also have some bruising at the injection sites. You may be advised to apply an ice pack indirectly on the treatment area for 24 hours following treatment to help reduce swelling.
In the days following the treatment, you may also be advised to firmly massage the area where the injections were performed. Dr. McMenamin will give you full instructions about how to perform the massages. These facial massages are important for producing even results and can alleviate the discomfort from the injections.
After the swelling subsides, you will look the same as you did before treatment, and then you will start to see improvement over time. Because the injections will cause your body to produce collagen, the results of your Sculptra injections will happen gradually. You should see results three to six weeks after treatment.
