Pro Lipo

ProLipo is a minimally invasive laser-assisted procedure that targets undesirable fat in nearly every part of the body including the face, neck, back, abdomen, hips and waist, knees and buttocks. The FDA approved body sculpting treatment incorporates a dual wavelength capability (1064 nm and 1319 nm), allowing a skilled surgeon like Dr. McMenamin to choose between the wavelengths, or combine them in order to optimize the results.

The laser-assisted procedure can be used as a stand alone procedure or in combination with other treatments like tumescent liposuction.

When to Choose ProLipo

Healthy individuals who are tired of stubborn fat deposits may be good candidates for ProLipo. Be sure to speak with your cosmetic surgeon about the many body areas with which ProLipo can be effective. It is important that individuals seeking ProLipo treatment are generally healthy non-smokers with realistic expectations. Laser-assisted procedures like ProLipo are not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle including a balanced diet and exercise.

Dr. McMenamin may recommend ProLipo for treating many body areas, including:

  • Neck or chin
  • Upper arms
  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Buttocks
  • Knees
  • Chest (for men)
  • Thighs

What to Expect During Your ProLipo Treatment

The area to be treated will be numbed using the same anesthetic solution containing epinephrine used in tumescent liposuction. A cannula with a laser fiber fixed to the end is inserted through a small incision in the skin. Once in place, the laser system is activated. The laser energy heats up and liquefies the fat cells as the cannula is passed back and forth over the tissue, and the liquefied fat is then suctioned out through the cannula. Side benefits of ProLipo treatment are that the laser energy tightens the skin by coagulating tissue and stimulating collagen growth.

ProLipo treatments generally last between one to two hours and are performed in an office setting here in Sacramento.

Recovery and Results

Most patients experience very little downtime following ProLipo treatment. The compression garment should be worn for one week or so, as instructed by your surgical team. Mild bruising and swelling are common symptoms in the first days after treatment that can be addressed with gentle pain medications like Tylenol.

The results of ProLipo treatment are noticeable immediately and will continue to improve throughout the next four weeks following the procedure. During these weeks, the skin will shrink and tighten, and the stimulated collagen will produce a tightening of the skin. Most individuals need only one treatment to achieve optimal results, though this varies from person to person.
