Otoplasty
Having ears that protrude too much
can be psychologically devastating to children and embarrassing to adults.
Surgical correction can be accomplished on one or both ears depending on need.
An incision is placed on the back side of the
ear. The cartilage is thinned to construct a near normal looking fold. No
sutures are used on the sculpted cartilage. Excess skin is removed and sutures
are used to bring the new edges back together.
The procedure is done in our accredited operating
room under local anesthesia with monitored IV sedation. It takes approximately 1
to 2 hours for both ears.
Recovery is relatively quick with minimal
discomfort. A headband is utilized to gently compress the ears during the
initial healing period.
