Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing can smooth away fine lines, wrinkles and other surface irregularities and erase sun damage to give you refreshed, more youthful-looking skin.

At the Cosmetic Surgery Center of Sacramento, Dr. McMenamin offers laser skin resurfacing for men and women who desire a significant improvement in their complexion and skin texture.

When to Choose Laser Skin Resurfacing

Nearly any man or woman with aging skin issues is a good candidate for some sort of laser resurfacing treatment. For those who wish to address acne, small blood vessels/redness, rosacea, sun damage/pigment, hair reduction or enlarged pores, broadband light treatment with the Sciton Joule infrared light may be recommended. However, if you exhibit....

  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Acne scars
  • Crepey skin
....then laser skin resurfacing with the Micro Laser Peel and tightening with the ProFractional Laser might be appropriate.

During your consultation with Dr. McMenamin, he will thoroughly evaluate your skin and talk with you about the results that can be achieved with each laser offered at the Cosmetic Surgery Center of Sacramento to help you choose the best laser skin resurfacing procedure.

“Lasers have come to play an increasingly important role in my practice in recent years. We’re in the 4th generation of laser technology now, and my patients love the results that can be attained.

Laser surgery offers numerous benefits: it’s ideal for those who don’t yet need major surgery, less invasive, and the recovery period is shorter”

What to Expect During Laser Skin Resurfacing

Before any laser skin resurfacing procedure, you will start by having your face cleansed and your eyes fitted with special goggles to protect them during the laser treatment. For patients undergoing more aggressive laser treatments or those with sensitive skin, a topical numbing cream may also be applied prior to the procedure.

Dr. McMenamin will rejuvenate your skin by passing pulses of laser energy over the treatment area(s), which may include just a portion of your face, such as around your eyes or mouth, your entire face, and/or your neck, chest and hands.

The time it takes to perform laser skin resurfacing depends largely on the number and size of treatment areas, as well as the severity of the issues you wish to correct, however most laser skin resurfacing procedures can be performed in an hour or less. In order to minimize downtime and maximize results, Dr. McMenamin may also suggest that your laser skin resurfacing treatment be performed in two to six sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart.

Recovery and Results

The length of recovery and the results you achieve with laser skin resurfacing depend largely on the type of laser used for your laser resurfacing treatment and the aggressiveness of the treatment. Deeper laser skin resurfacing treatments designed to address issues like acne scars and wrinkles are typically associated with more downtime, ranging from a few days to a week, and more dramatic results can be achieved with fewer treatments.

More superficial skin resurfacing treatments intended only to reduce uneven pigmentation require little to no downtime but often require more treatment sessions to achieve optimal results.
