Juvederm®
Injectable Hyaluronic Acid Gel
Juvederm® is an injectable gel treatment made from hyaluronic acid. It is used to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Juvederm products include Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra XC, and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC.
When To Choose Juvederm®
As our skin ages, it produces less hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid in the skin keeps the skin appearing plump and youthful. When your body produces less hyaluronic acid, lines and hollow areas can appear. Juvederm can treat lines and hollows associated with aging.
Juvederm injections can treat:
- Smile lines next to the nose,
- Marionette lines near the mouth, and
- Horizontal or vertical lines around the lips
Juvederm XC is specifically approved for use in persons of color. Other injectable treatments are not recommended for persons of color, as they can result in discoloration of the skin or scarring.
Juvederm XC is infused with Lidocaine, to reduce the discomfort associated with injections. Filler gels infused with Lidocaine reduce patient discomfort, and the Lidocaine does not affect the results or their duration.
Juvederm is not for use in patients with a history of severe allergies, a previous reaction to gram-positive bacteria, or any sensitivity to Lidocaine.
What to Expect During Juvederm Treatment in Sacramento
If you choose treatment with Juvederm XC, you may not need a topical anasthetic because Juvederm® XC is formulated with Lidocaine, which can help to reduce discomfort during the injection. During your appointment, you will get a series of injections in the areas you and Dr. McMenamin have selected for treatment. The injections typically last only fifteen minutes.

After Your Juvederm Treatment in Sacramento
After your Juvederm® treatment, you may experience some minor swelling, redness, and bruising at the site of the injection. These typically last seven days or less. After your treatment, you may be advised to indirectly ice the area to reduce the swelling and bruising. You should avoid alcohol and exercise for 24 hours following treatment.
You will see your results immediately, and results last up to one year. Sometimes, more than one treatment is required to achieve the desired results. Follow up treatments after six or twelve months will be required to maintain your results.
