Otoplasty (Repair of Protruding or Lop Ears)

Procedure: Surgical correction of one or both ears that protrude or fold over too much. Can be accomplished through an incision that is placed behind the ear leaving no easily visible scar. Is commonly performed on children as well as adults.

Length of treatment: 2 to 3 hours in our accredited office surgical suite.

Anesthesia: Local anesthesia with monitored IV sedation.

Side effects: Bruising, swelling, numbness, must wear a headband for a while.

Risks/Complications: Infection, bleeding, asymmetry, skin/cartilage loss (rare), permanent numbness, scarring, unacceptable result.

Recovery: One week to return to sedentary work. Two weeks to return to active work and exercise.

Permanence: Permanent results with normal aging changes.
