Botox® Injections

Procedure: Injection by syringe of botulinum toxin into the muscles of the forehead, corners of the eyes, and/or between the eyebrows to smooth wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles. Gives a more relaxed, youthful appearance. Can also be used to help relieve migraine headaches, muscle contraction headaches, and eye spasms.

Length of treatment: 5 to 10 minutes. Takes 3 to 5 days to take full effect.

Anesthesia: Cold pack to treatment area before injection in most cases.

Side effects: Mild local discomfort and redness at injection site that is of limited duration.

Risks/Complications: Bruising, undesirable weakness in surrounding muscles (eyelid droop, facial droop), unacceptable result.

Recovery: Not applicable.

Permanence: In general, lasts 3 to 5 months.
