Social media websites, the news, and the beauty industry have all shown signs that a curvy figure is in vogue again. Cosmetic surgeons, noticing this evolution in beauty perception, have developed procedures to meet the desires of patients who want a more voluptuous figure.

RealSelf.com, a website where patients and surgeons share information about cosmetic procedures, found that searches related to butt augmentation rose dramatically in 2011 – increasing 39 percent. They say it’s the “fastest moving topic on the site in terms of overall consumer interest.”

With the rise of procedures like the Brazilian butt lift, in which a patient’s own fat is transferred to enhance the shape and size of the buttocks, women are looking to enhance other areas as well.

Is Thigh Augmentation the Next Trend for Curves?

A recent study in the American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery explored thigh augmentation, a procedure that uses a custom implant. “Breasts are getting bigger, buttocks are getting fuller, and there is increasing demand for a fuller, more curvaceous look to the thighs,” report the authors.

During their study, 18 women received the implants to achieve a fuller appearance in the thighs. The procedure involves surgical insertion of a custom-made lateral thigh prosthesis, which enhances the curves of the lateral thigh area.

The authors reported high patient satisfaction. There were no major complications associated with the procedure during the study, and they found that implants helped women achieve a fuller look in the thigh.

Realistically, there are probably more women looking for less volume on their thighs. For them, a thigh lift might be the right procedure. A thigh lift reshapes the contour of the inner and outer thighs by removing excess skin. In some cases, a limited amount of fat is removed with liposuction.

Traditional Procedures for Enhancing Curves

Some of the most popular procedures have always been about enhancing a patient’s curves and contours. For example, many women who are dissatisfied with the size, shape and fullness of their breasts often turn to breast augmentation with saline or silicone implants.

Other curve-enhancing procedures include buttock augmentation with implants, calf augmentation and pectoral augmentation.

A breast augmentation is a major surgery. Like any other major surgery, it takes time to recover.

In the first few days following a breast augmentation, expect to feel fatigued and sore. Taking time to rest is essential. It’s normal to feel tightness in the breast area as the skin heals and adjusts to the new size of the breasts.

Breast massage or other exercises may be recommended to speed recovery and help alleviate any discomfort. A postoperative bra, compression bandage, or sports bra is recommended for extra support and positioning while healing. Most patients are able to return to work within a few days after their procedure.

In the following weeks after surgery the breasts are swollen and remain sensitive to physical contact. It is important to avoid any strenuous activities that could raise the pulse and blood pressure.

Plan for several post-operative visits with Dr. McMenamin to monitor your healing progress and discuss any specific symptoms or concerns.

Keep in mind that a fever, a dramatic increase in swelling or redness around the area of the implant are not normal symptoms and may be evidence of an infection. Talk to the doctor immediately if these symptoms appear.

facial rejuvenation procedures Twenty years ago, a facelift was the main option for patients looking to fight facial aging. Today, technology has spawned numerous procedures for facial rejuvenation, from surgery to lasers to injections, reports the Miami Herald.

Here is an overview of some of the facial rejuvenation procedures available today.

Facelifts

Targeting the signs of aging in the lower part of the face, a facelift can erase imperfections through lifting and removing excess skin.

Even the facelift itself has evolved. For instance, Dr. McMenamin offers a laser facelift, which is less invasive than the traditional facelift and uses laser-assisted lipolysis and skin tightening devices.

Injectables

It is hard to imagine a time when dermal fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, and botulinum toxins, such as Botox and Dysport, weren’t an option for filling lines and smoothing wrinkles on the face.

The options for injectables continue to grow. Fat grafting and stem cells are the latest innovations. With fat grafting, fat is removed from one area of the patient’s body and is then used as an injectable to add volume to areas such as the lips, nasolabial folds or hollows under the eyes.

Lasers & Ultrasound

For tightening up facial skin, lasers, such as SkinTyte, are now a popular option. The laser heats the collagen underneath the skin, making the skin tighten and stimulating the growth of new collagen.

Devices using ultrasound waves are another new technology for tightening. The ultrasound waves shrink collagen, making the skin tighter.

The Future of Facial Rejuvenation

Dr. Leslie Baumann, chief executive of a cosmetic institute in Miami, says there are more new facial rejuvenation procedures on the horizon in the next few years, including new injectables, lights and lasers.
